The National Guard Counterdrug Program operates in all 54 states and territories to support local, state and federal Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in America’s fight against drugs. The program employs just under 2,500 Soldiers and Airmen to support its three core signature programs: Drug Demand Reduction, Decision Superiority and Combatant Commanders.
National Guard Counterdrug personnel are woven into the fabric of our communities across America. The Drug Demand Reduction Program’s mission is to develop strong partnerships within the National Guard force structure. By accomplishing this, we can build capacity, leverage resources, standardized key programs, reduce duplication of efforts, create visible relevance to the Department of Defense, and focus on providing support to military families within local communities in each state.
The current climate in America is one that poses constant challenges and pressures for today’s youth when making decisions that will directly impact their future, and ultimately, America’s future. The National Guard Counterdrug Program is partnering with several organizations that have a mutual goal – impact today’s youth with a powerful message; and educate them with current realistic and evidence based facts that will influence the outcome for a stronger America.
There are many ways to reinforce a powerful message; the DDR Program strives to accomplish its goal by contributing to National Guard families, state, federal, local organizations and schools through a drug awareness curriculum/message. The standardized programs that will be utilized are proven evidence based programs that energizes youth to choose their path ahead; creating a strong coalition of youth that make their choices based off of the information they have received from their educators, mentors and parents.
We are making a conscientious choice to be a part of that decision making sequence because we believe that failure is not an option, not for any of America’s youth. The success will only be proven by the professionalism and perseverance of the Soldiers and Airmen supporting this message.
The National Guard Bureau J3 Counterdrug Office provides resources, guidance and a set of soundstandardized programs. The goal is to set the Counterdrug personnel up for success; success in their mission of educating the youth of America for a future that seeks to be free of the utilization of illegal drugs, and the threat of terrorism that is supported through the marketing and sale of illegal drugs.
